an unfortunate turn of events

this coming sunday marks my last chance at qualifying for a 'competitive start' for the chicago marathon (sub 1:25:59). i ran a test run tonight to see what my legs had to say about that. i ran 8.5 miles in 1 hour and 2 seconds. suck. i'm still 7.5 minutes short. my problem is not that i'm not fit enough, it's just that my legs are still out of gas from the half ironman. ah well, such is life.

i will earn at least a preferred 1 start (1:35:59) or die trying.

funny how over the course of two weeks my expectation of myself has changed from a 1:20 to a 1:35. maybe i'm getting mentally weak and/or lazy. scary thought.

Somehow I don't think 1:35:59 will be too tough for you. I'm going to shoot for 1:45:59 if conditions are perfect and my quad loosens up prior to Sunday. In reality I'll be happy with anything less than my Mini time of 1:52:59.
