did jesus send christmas cards?

I was talking with some customers in the store yesterday and it came up that hanukkah is in 3 days. oh crap. My oldest brother and his family is Jewish which makes me probably the world's worst brother in terms of holidays. It's usually by blind luck that i'll remember to call on the high holidays. Even worse, hanukkah is a moving holiday. It's on different days every year.

To my benefit, hanukkah is probably a bigger deal to the christians who started this whole gift-giving bastardization of religion than it is to jews. Seriously, how do you turn the birth of your Savior into shopping malls, angry customers, and parking lots filled with the one-finger salute of christmas tidings. I think my dad has it right. Every year for as long as i can remember, whenever i asked him what he wanted for Christmas, he would just say that he wants to be with me and maybe go out to breakfast.

Next year, I think i'm just going to start sending plane tickets as christma-kah gifts.

Greetings.

Your musings are well-written, and it is largely true.

However, please remember that the Magi brought gifts, when Jesus was a toddler. This is the basis of gift-giving at Christmas.

My Christmas shopping is generally done by Halloween, so I typically find people shopping in low numbers and content. Giving gifts does bring great joy; all is not characterized by an extended middle finger.

Wish your brother and his family well. Enjoy this season for what is genuinely good about it. Life is more fleeting than you may realize.

Oh--and by all means, have Christmas breakfast with your father.

the magi brought birthday presents. i don't think mary and joseph got anything other than a crappy hotel room out of the deal. i believe the whole gift giving extravanganza was brought into being by Saint Nicholas of Russia...but,as i did not do any research on the topic and these thoughts are stream-of-consciousness at best, i could be just perpetuating a myth. who knows.

and about those magi, what ever happened to them? these three "wise men" who were led by blind faith to the middle of nowhere to see a newborn. where were they when times got tough? you would think that they'd have some other role in the bible but as far as i know, there was no further mention of them.

Your wishes to my brother are much appreciated and will certainly be extended. A heartfelt Merry Christmas to you as well.
