nailed

well, they found the driver of the benz from my previous post and should be issuing a warrant for his arrest sometime today. he will likely get charged with reckless driving and i may have to appear in court. it's kind of sad that it takes this kind of thing to force people to be more considerate of others. i almost feel bad that this guy may end up with a criminal record because of this...almost...but not quite.

AA, eat pavement

it's on. and by 'it' i mean, the chase corporate challenge is 49 days away. i have started my 'eat anything that's not nailed down' regimen and am busting ass on the treadmill and outside. the winner last year is a flight attendant for american airlines and he is now known in the gym as my archrival. 20:14...hoo boy...that's quick. that's not incredibly out of reach but it will take a bit of work to get there. i'm going to run my first time trial tomorrow afternoon and see how hard i have to work over the remaining 48 days. if either of you readers are bored on may 26th, come out and cheer for me. i could use the motivation.

asshat in a benz

if you see a 50ish dude with graying dark hair driving a black 2005/6 mercedes-benz s500 4matic with dealer plates DL 46 S - hit him. yesterday i was out on my bike with my riding partner, dave. we come cruising down a hill and around a curve and see this worthless excuse for a human being going very very slowly. we swing out to the right of him to pass him and he rolls down his windown and makes some remark about the speed limit being only 15. after this we come up to a hill which causes us to drop back behind him. upon cresting the hill and starting our decent, we start picking up speed and close back in on him. well this jackass hits his brakes causing dave, my riding partner to swerve and barely miss. i was far enough back where i was on my brakes and stopped in plenty of space. the piece of garbage then hits the gas and speeds up. we, still being nearly at the top of the hill are really starting to pick up speed and we make our second move at passing him. Dave is in front and this cock-smoke swerves into him. and not just a little head-fake swerve. he completely switches lanes. now unlike myself dave is a pretty accomplished cyclist and manages to once again, avoid getting hit. i'll be damned if i can figure out how though.
this is getting very dangerous now and we both get on it to catch up to the guy to curse at him a bit. by this point, we've crested another hill and are again, on our way back down so we got gravity working for us. dave is one fast mofo and is about 10 yards ahead of me and he is all of 2 yards back from the benz. this asshat slams on his brakes screeching his tires and this time, dave isn't so lucky. he tries to swerve but catches the rear left corner of the car and takes a nasty spill in the road. jackass speeds off and a car behind us who had witnessed the whole thing takes off to catch up to him but doesn't truly succeed in getting him to stop. the benz eventually makes a uturn and is coming back towards us. as he is coming down the road he makes a little turn faking that he is going to swerve strait into us. this scares me shitless as my feet are still firmly strapped into my pedals and i have zero sideways mobility. well, he turns back and rolls down his window to yell at us, "i told you not to tailgate!" dude, what the fuck? he decides to try make dave crash on 3 separate occasions and this is our fault? asshole is not nearly a strong enough word to describe this guy.

busy busy

wow...three weeks since the last post. terrible. let's see, what's happened since then?
- my boat turned two years old. I get the feeling a tradition is starting with my boat receiving birthday cards. This cracks me up and they now get proudly displayed above my fireplace. this year, may 13th will be the first day of waterski season.
- i got food poisoning last monday. holy shit did that suck. i lost 8 lbs. in 48 hours and i'm a scrawny-ass to begin with.
- i went to the bulls/cavaliers game with todd. i had a really good time but i'm now positive that there is nothing that can touch college sports. the fan base is so much more passionate there.
- the illini damn near give me a heart attack. every one of their tourney games was close in the first half whether it should be or not. oh yea, and screw you UNC and the officials who want to smoke their pole.
- i house-sat for scott and tiffany while they were away and got to enjoy all the ammenities of their lifestyle...a cleaning lady who did my dishes and put away my groceries (i still can't find those two bananas), rolling around town in the benz (my boss is now 100% convinced that i sell drugs), and hd tv.
- i ran the shamrock shuffle in 34:02 (6:50/mile)...28 seconds slower than last year but i get to keep my competitive start for next year. three days earlier, i ran a single mile in 5:13, my best ever (previous was 5:17). i've also been put on the spot for the chase corporate challenge and am being expected to pull out a 20:13 (5:44/mile). i think this is do-able but i need to start training seriously. the only problem with this is that serious training involves speedwork (hill runs, 400 meter repeats, etc.) which i hate. the only speedwork that i enjoy is when tim and zack whup my ass on a bike while i run with them.

well, i think that brings me up to date. i'll make an attempt to post more often.
